Moments of Negotiation

Design Thesis | Waterfront Alexandria, VA

Adaptive reuse project that overlayed and reconnected a public park and community through a police and fire station for the city of Alexandria Virginia.

Architecture negotiates between an array of shifting orders specific to site and culture. Using site and culture as filter; program, structure, surface and circulation were derived as critical moments of negotiation in this design thesis. It is thereby the contention that ordered systems increase in complexity as they mediate between clear and ambiguous moments. Architecture thus becomes a mediation of extremes as program, structure, surface and circulation are translated.
