Cultural restoration
The 699 culture & creative park site in Nanchang was an opportunity to focus on adaptive reuse as a core ideology that drove design decisions. Vintage architecture combine with a traditional courtyard create distinct moments to blend old with new. Most of the exterior and courtyard spaces were cleaned and left as is. Lighting was added around the perimeter and in key locations to celebrate the classical architecture and detailing. In the interior a beautiful truss ceiling was left partially exposed with accent lighting to celebrate. The original slate floor and brick pavers within the courtyard were cleaned and repaired to there original glory. The intent was to preserve the old charm but at the same time blend the Starbucks experience across all spaces.

The Nanchang culture and creative park is a leisure destination with many gallery's and food and beverage locations. The city is also more of a temperate climate allowing for longer cafe experiences outdoors.
The site had many exterior zones so it was important to focus on the garden aspects of the planning as well entry and exit from the complex to create impactful and meaningful seating outdoors.
