Alexis Landry led the design for the store using a collection of curved geometries anchored by a pill shaped banquet that connects to the ceiling and provides good visual balance to the bar. The mall entrance was an important moment as it faced a large atrium. The design creates a window view an opens up the store from what was there before complete with integrated seating to celebrate what’s new. Atto Primo - Enjoy the theatre of food Step into an intimate setting where theatre and food meet. The romance of antique balconies, get close to the drama while being surrounded by the artistry of the menu unfolding in front of your eyes. Atto Primo is a full service F&B concept that includes both interior design and branding to include logo and menu design. A true turn-key design that allowed a dive deep into the retail experience across multiple touchpoints. The concept romanticizes the theater of food by celebrating the different culinary arts from the kitchen, to cocktails and the pizza bar. The restaurant is also divided into 3 unique dining spaces that conceptually and experientially connect to Italian culture and theatre. The Michelin rated Italian restaurant was opened in Shanghai in the historic Bund 5 along the waterfront of the Huang river. It was an experiment for Yum brands in China to diversify there business and explore some key strategic relationships across other F&B business models. It was a relocation asset from an existing location. Located in the CBD and one of the top commercial properties it was important to deliver both a strong coffee experience as well as several branded moments to celebrate both Starbucks heritage and coffee education for a tier 3 city. For the reserve bar we had a lot of real estate to explore a more grand experience and celebrate craft. To play homage to roastery a low budget re-creation of the automated ticker used to display coffee was integrated into the reserve wall display. Working with our art vendor a carrying case together with an assortment of block letters were provided to allow our barista’s to update the coffee collection as new coffee is released. The design solution brings the Reserve bar experience front and center. Customers are greeted with iconic architecture combine with rich textured materials to define the bar and its stairway to the 2nd floor cafe. Careful consideration to branding and a peek-a-boo moment at the mall’s exterior draws customers to the store. Once inside the space creates a cozy nook to see and be seen. The challenging site required a design that re-looked at our bar experience in the round. The residential store format focuses on coffee education and the slow coffee experience. We worked closely with operations and R&D teams to find efficient and new ways to integrate our equipment and routines in the most compact bar experience for the time. The barista and the slow coffee bar were carefully orchestrated so we could create a strong visual relationship from outside to inside. A dark walnut palette was selected to represent the premium vibe for this location. It was important to celebrate the city and Starbucks so two unique art pieces were created for this store. The first a siren tail mural hand drawn by a skilled Chinese artist incorporates an aesthetic reminiscent of both the artist and regional art. The patterns are intricate and rich providing a powerful moment upon entry. The second art moment is an abstract map of Quanzhou created using 25 hand-crafted tiles made from cut Starbucks Reserve cards. Each tile was handmade by designers from our Seattle based design team and then hand carried back to China for assembly. Vintage architecture combine with a traditional courtyard create distinct moments to blend old with new. Most of the exterior and courtyard spaces were cleaned and left as is. Lighting was added around the perimeter and in key locations to celebrate the classical architecture and detailing. In the interior a beautiful truss ceiling was left partially exposed with accent lighting to celebrate. The original slate floor and brick pavers within the courtyard were cleaned and repaired to there original glory.
